More than 51,000 people gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, as the Nollywood crime thriller Black Market set a new Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening in a single location.
The attendance surpassed the previous record of 43,624, set in 2015 by the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.
A Guinness World Records official confirmed the attendance figure at the Lagos venue, with fireworks lighting up the sky as the crowd celebrated the record-breaking achievement.
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, was among the dignitaries who attended the event.
The record attempt was led by Damilola Osikoya, Chief Executive Officer of Switch Visuals, who was credited as the Event Production Producer. Switch Visuals was also listed as the Production Partner in the official event documentation.
Osikoya played a key role in coordinating the record attempt and bringing sponsors and other partners on board for the large-scale screening.
The film used for the record attempt, *Black Market*, was produced by Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios and directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay.
Speaking on the scale of the event, Osikoya described the screening as a unique production that required extensive coordination.
“This wasn’t a movie premiere with a crowd. This was a live, unrepeatable event with 51,000 moving parts, and it had exactly one chance to work,” he said.
Osikoya also expressed appreciation to the sponsors and partners whose support contributed to the success of the event.
He specifically acknowledged Zenith Bank, Oraimo, Johnnie Walker Blonde, the Lagos State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Swoop, among other partners.
“Nobody builds a night like this alone. To Zenith Bank, Oraimo, Johnnie Walker Blonde, the Lagos State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Swoop, thank you for backing an idea nobody had tried before,” Osikoya
