Two Nigerian Women Make History: Damilola Osikoya and Nora Awolowo Break Guinness World Record

 

Switch Visuals CEO and Rixel Studios producer credited jointly for record-breaking Lagos film screening.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, more than 51,000 people gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, for a screening of the Nollywood crime thriller Black Market, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening in a single location. The previous record of 43,624 was set in 2015 by the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.

A Guinness World Records official confirmed the attendance figure at the venue. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat was among the dignitaries present.

The night’s success is credited to two women: Damilola Osikoya, CEO of Switch Visuals, who was credited as Event Production Producer for the screening, and Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios, who produced the film. 

Black Market is directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release in the coming weeks.

Organisers had set a minimum target of 50,000 attendees ahead of the event.
